Are you wondering which Baxi combi boiler might be the one for you?
Baxi is a good, British brand with reliable boilers and great deals at the moment. That said, they do have a few different boiler ranges, and it’s not always clear which model of combi boiler is best suited to your home at first glance – well, if you don’t immediately know what you’re looking for, at least.
I completely understand how choosing a boiler isn’t an easy job – there’s just so many factors to think about.
So, as an experienced engineer, I thought I’d compare three of the most popular Baxi ranges against each other. This should hopefully give you a better idea of which you’d be most interested in.
NOTE: In order to be confident you’re making the right choice for your home, I always recommend getting your chosen Gas Safe registered heating engineer to measure your home’s heat loss – it’s better to be safe than sorry!
The Baxi 600 range
The Baxi 600 range has been endorsed by the Energy Saving Trust, so you know it’s super efficient. It also comes with the option of integrating it with Baxi’s uSense controls, so you can operate these boilers from anywhere with a smartphone or tablet (as long as you have an internet connection!).
Output and flow rate:
- Baxi 624 combi boiler: 21kW to heating, and 25kW to hot water: 10.2 litres of hot water per min at 35 degrees Celsius
- Baxi 630 combi boiler: 21kW to heating, and 30kW to hot water: 12.2 litres of hot water per min at 35 degrees Celsius
Guarantee: 7 years (with an annual service)
Size: 700mm x 390mm x 285mm – will easily fit into a kitchen cupboard 290mm deep
Best suited to: This range is perfect for a small apartment or home with 2 – 4 radiators. The 624 is more suited to a home with a shower, and will be slow to fill a bath, whereas the 630 can easily cope with a bath or high-pressure shower,
The Baxi Duo-Tec range
The Duo-Tec is a popular choice for many of my customers. However, it’s a step-down to the Platinum models. Much like the Baxi 600, they come with a 7-year guarantee (instead of a 10-year one).
Outputs and flow rates
- Duo-tec 24HE: 20kw to heating and 24kw to hot water: 9.8 litres per min at 35 degrees Celsius
- Duo-tec 28HE: 24kw to heating and 28kw to hot water: 11.5 litres per min at 35 degrees Celsius
- Duo-tec 33HE: 28kw to the heating and 33kw to the hot water: 13.5 litres per min at 35 degrees Celsius
- Duo-tec 40HE: 33kw to the heating and 40kw to the hot water: 16.4 litres per min at 35 degrees Celsius
Guarantee: 7 years (with an annual service)
Size: 780mm high x 450mm wide x 345mm deep – not a compact model. Perfect for going on a kitchen wall or in a larger storage cupboard
Best suited to: Anything from a small home or apartment, to a large detached house with a high hot water demand, with two showers running at once.
The Baxi Platinum range
The Baxi platinum range typically works out cheaper than the Worcester Bosch equivalent by a few hundred pounds, when supplied and fitted with controls and filter. Plus, they have a little extra output to the hot water which equates to around an extra 1/2 litre per minute (on the 33kw & 40kw models).
Output and flow rate:
Below, I’ve given you a brief overview of the outputs available to your central heating, as well as the flow rate you can expect to your taps.
- Platinum 24HE: 24kw to heating and 24kw to hot water: 9.8 litres per min at 35 degrees Celsius
- Platinum 28HE: 24kw to heating and 28kw to hot water: 11.5 litres per min at 35 degrees Celsius
- Platinum 33HE: 28kw to the heating and 33kw to the hot water: 13.5 litres per min at 35 degrees Celsius
- Platinum 40HE: 32kw to the heating and 40kw to the hot water: 16.4 litres per min at 35 degrees Celsius
Guarantee: A 10-year no-quibble guarantee – which is a great deal when you don’t have to worry about buying a filter and controls!
Size: 780mm high x 450mm wide x 345mm deep – unfortunately these models aren’t compact. Much like the Duo-Tec, they’re at home on a kitchen wall or inside a larger storage cupboard.
Best suited to: Anything from a small property with 3 – 5 radiators and a shower, right up to a detached 4-bedroom house with 9-14 radiators, and deep-fill bath. It can even run two showers at once!
Advice from an experienced engineer
These boilers are really quite different from each other. If you’re looking for a Baxi boiler that will suit your small-ish apartment or home, that also comes with a 10-year guarantee, I’d recommend the Baxi Platinum hands-down.
However, if the guarantee doesn’t matter to you, and you also need a compact boiler to fit in a kitchen cupboard, the Baxi 600 might be your best bet. This also wins in terms of efficiency, having been endorsed by the Energy Savings Trust. You can even use Baxi’s new smart controls with it!
However, always get an engineer to conduct a home visit, and measure your home’s heat loss. See what they recommend. It’s also worth getting 2 – 3 fixed price quotes!
Conclusion
If you’re looking for the perfect Baxi combi boiler for your home, I know it can seem a bit confusing. After all, they have quite a few different ranges available. That’s why I thought I’d compare three of the most popular right here, so you can get a better overview.

Can the pipes go down the back of these boilers and do you have to fit a filter for the warranty?
