Do you always try to get the most for your money? I know I do. Especially if I’m investing in a big purchase like a new car or latest bit of tech, I want to ensure that I’ve got access to the best possible after-care, and that I’m covered if anything goes wrong.
It’s no different when purchasing a new combi boiler, and there is currently a plethora of different companies and types of guarantees out there to choose from. So, which are the best?
Well, today I’m going to be looking at some of the best and longest boiler guarantees on the market, and comparing them so you don’t have to.
Worcester Bosch
Known to have a market leading, no-quibble guarantee, Worcester Bosch offer up to eight years of cover when fitted by an accredited installer. There are no hidden charges or complicated small prints, and the company has their own dedicated team of engineers who are only experienced in dealing with Worcester Bosch boilers.
Baxi Potterton
Baxi Potterton offer a 7-year and 10-year guarantee with the same boilers – the main difference is that you’re paying around £200 extra for the longer guarantee.
However good these guarantees might seem at first glance, it’s always wise to double check the small print, as Baxi Potterton do have some little clauses that might mean you end up paying extra. Also, depending on whether the problem with your boiler is down to a homeowner or installer error, your credit card may be charged for the price of the call-out.
As for call-outs, Baxi employ a group of engineers called Heat Team.
Ideal
Ideal boilers offer much the same type of guarantees as Baxi Potterton, although they have their own team of dedicated engineers.
Their extended guarantees can often be subject to servicing, or flushing, and certain parts may not be covered for the full term, such as ignitors or condensate traps. These are often classified as normal wear and tear, so we advise checking the small print before you buy.
Glow-worm
Glow-worm boilers recently upgraded their guarantee, and the company now offer some of the longest guarantees on the market, at up to 15 years (with an extra premium of £400). However, with these extended warranties of 7, 10 and 15 years, there can also be complications, and in order for your guarantee to be valid, your Glow-worm boiler must be serviced by the Glow-worm company every year.
Since Glow-worm are sort of like the budget version of the Vaillant group, they also have their own team of dedicated engineers – which is almost unheard of for a budget boiler.
However, like the two examples above, your credit card may be charged if there’s found to be an installer or homeowner error with your Glow-worm boiler.
Vaillant
Vaillant offer a no-quibble extended guarantee of up to eight years, assuming you use an accredited installer. They also have their own team of dedicated engineers, so you know your boiler is getting the best quality care and attention. In my opinion, this is the only company that equal’s Worcester Bosch’s market leading guarantee.
Conclusion
If you want to get the best value guarantee for your money, there are plenty of companies offering extended versions of their standard guarantees. However, not all of them are as good as they appear to be, and I really recommend checking the fine print for clauses or exemptions which could leave you out of pocket.
My top picks are Worcester Bosch and Vaillant, as they both offer no-quibble guarantees, with dedicated engineers. Even better, they won’t charge your credit card for call-outs.
