Are you looking for a premium brand system boiler for your medium-sized Edinburgh home?

If so, the Vaillant EcoTEC Plus 618 is probably already on your radar. Still, a boiler is a sizeable investment to make, and with so many options out there, it can be daunting making sure you choose the right one.

The good news is, I’ve put my years of experience fitting boilers to good use, and reviewed the EcoTEC Plus 618 in full below to help make your decision an easier one.

Introduction

The Vaillant EcoTEC Plus 618 is a great quality, very quiet boiler – one of the quietest on the market, actually. I have fitted these in large walk-in cupboards which housed both the boiler and unvented cylinder.

The 618 is also an A-rated boiler, so depending on the age and efficiency level of your current boiler, there’s a chance you could also see some savings on your energy bills.

Vaillant itself is a very reliable, forward-thinking company that tends to produce quality boilers that are in it for long haul. I also see them as the only real competitor to Which ‘Best Buy’ Worcester Bosch, because they are unbeatable in terms of value and longevity.

Output and flow rate

With an output of 18kw to the central heating, this boiler is perfect for comfortable heating a 2-3 bedroom home with around 6-8 radiators. However, it is NOT suitable if you have 10 radiators or more.

As this is a system boiler, it will connect to your existing hot water tank so you’ll find the flow to your shower and bath will be the same. This is particularly great if you have a power shower or shower with a pump, as it will not have to be changed or disturbed in the way it would it you were installing a combi boiler.

Because this is a system boiler, your old feed and expansion tank will be removed and disposed of. This will be a pressurised system meaning it will be quieter and more efficient. The pump will be fitted in the boiler, so your old one can be removed for more space.

Size and special features

The EcoTEC Plus 618 is slightly larger than some other boilers out there, as it’s 720mm high x 440mm wide x 338mm deep. So, you’ll find it won’t fit a standard kitchen unit.

Despite the size, the 618 is fairly lightweight – the lowest in its class. It also comes with a 2-stage frost thermostat.

Guarantee

This is another great reason to love Vaillant boilers, as the EcoTEC Plus 618 comes with a brilliant 10-year guarantee* (when fitted by an accredited installer). There’s more – you don’t even have to fit the company’s filter or controls to be eligible for that deal.

Another reason I like to recommend Vaillant’s guarantees is that there’s no hidden small print or unexpected credit card charges to catch you out, unlike other similar boiler companies.

One last thing: Vaillant also has its own dedicated engineers to attend call-outs if you ever need them, so you can be sure your boiler will be in the best possible hands.

Tech specs

Below you’ll find a brief summary of the tech specs for the EcoTEC Plus 618 system boiler:

  • Boiler output: 18kw
  • Ideal for: A 2-3 bedroom home with 6-8 radiators
  • ERP rating: A
  • Guarantee: 10 years*

Conclusion

If you’re in need of a quality boiler for your 2-3 bedroom Edinburgh property, the Vaillant EcoTEC 618 system boiler could be your ideal choice. Still, it’s a big decision to make, so I’ve helped you out with the above review.

With a heating output of 18kw, the 618 is ideal for a 2-3 bedroom home with 6-8 radiators, but is not suitable for larger homes with 10 radiators or more. And because it’s a system boiler, you can still enjoy the same flow rates as before.

At 720mm high x 440mm wide x 338mm deep it’s not the smallest system boiler on the market, but it is lightweight.

Finally, you’ll benefit from Vaillant’s fantastic 10-year guarantee* and dedicated engineers who will have you covered on the off-chance anything goes wrong.
