Need to know exactly how much an Ideal boiler service costs?

Whether your Ideal boiler is still under warranty, or has been running along nicely for over a decade, you probably already know how important it is to get it checked with an annual service.

A regular boiler service ensures your boiler is safe, and not putting your family in danger. But it also means your boiler stays running optimally, potentially saving you money on your bills! Plus, if you have a newer model under warranty, it means you’ll keep that warranty valid.

Having personally serviced and fitted many Ideal boilers over the years, I’m one of the best people to tell you about their various quirks and faults.

That’s why I’m going to tell you all you need to know about the Ideal brand, and how much an Ideal boiler service costs.

Ideal boilers: a brief background

In all my time working as an engineer over the years, Ideal boilers have been a constant feature. In fact, this British brand claims to have over 100 years’ experience in the heating industry.

Previously famous for bullet-proof boilers with cast iron heat exchangers, its heat-only range won out back in the day. In fact, I’ve serviced some of the older floor standing models which could still be going strong 30 years later!

However, if your Ideal system or combi boiler is around 16 – 20 years old, it could be prone to a number of faults. These were fairly unreliable boilers, which is why during that period, I mainly spent most of my time installing other brands.

Nowadays, their newer range are known to be very reliable, and come with great guarantees. Saying that, if you’ve recently moved house and don’t know which type of Ideal boiler you have, arranging a service will help to give you a better idea of your boiler’s life expectancy.

How much does an Ideal boiler service cost?

If, to the best of your knowledge, your Ideal boiler is functioning normally, without issue, a standard service should be around £100 including VAT. However, some companies may charge a little less, whilst national companies can set you back around £110 – £120. So, it really does vary.

TIP: If you’re aware there’s a problem with your boiler, don’t just book a service and hope the engineer will fix it. Always let them know in advance, or it could end up costing you more.

If you can find an Ideal accredited installer, it’s always best to book with them rather than a company that is perhaps less experienced with the brand. Accredited installers are put through extensive training and have a much wider knowledge. It really does make a difference.

We service a lot of Ideal boilers these days, a lot of which seem to be fitted by house builders. New home owners also seem pleased by the length of the guarantee (7 – 10 years).

What’s the best way to pay?

Some homeowners like to pay for their Ideal boiler service up front. However, more and more are now opting for our service plan – something offered by many Edinburgh companies.

Service plans are usually charged monthly – ours starts at £7.99 per month. This allows you to spread out the cost of your boiler service over a year. Many people prefer monthly payments, as it seems like a more manageable cost.

TIP: We also have other service plans to cover parts, labour and cover to the radiators, along with valves and pipework! Check out our servicing page for more information.

But wait! There’s also another good reason to pay monthly. It means the responsibility of arranging your annual service falls on the company, rather than you as the homeowner. So, you’ll never have to worry about forgetting your annual service again!

From an engineer’s perspective

Not sure how old your Ideal boiler is? Ask the internet, by typing in the make and model into Google. You can also check your paperwork (if you have it) to help pinpoint your boiler’s age.

Servicing older Ideal boilers is usually fine, but be aware that even the new generation boilers from this brand have a life span of 12 – 15 years. On an Ideal boiler older than 8 – 10 years, I would not personally advise spending over £300 on repairs.

You might actually find it’d work out cheaper to replace your old Ideal boiler with a newer, A-rated model. And you’d almost definitely save a bit of money on your energy bills!

Remember, engineers like myself have to put safety above all else (such as you having heating and hot water). We are governed by the Gas Safe Register.

Therefore, if we highlight a defect, necessary repair work, or changes to meet new regulations – it’s for good reason. It’s not just because we want to make your life difficult!

Conclusion

I hope you’ve found this blog useful when determining how much an Ideal boiler service costs. Remember, just like any other gas appliance, it’s important to arrange annual checks – but especially if your Ideal boiler is older.

How much of a price would YOU put on your family’s safety? I thought as much.
