Are you looking to get your old Worcester Bosch boiler repaired?

It’s seen you through many cold winters, but if your old Worcester Bosch boiler is past its guarantee, you may be wondering the best way to go about getting it repaired – without it costing the earth.

If that’s the case, you’ve come to the right blog; I’ve personally dealt with many Worcester Bosch boilers over the years (especially the Worcester Bosch Junior models, simply due to the large numbers fitted), and like to think of myself as a bit of an expert.

So, whether your faulty Worcester Bosch boiler is five years old or 20, this blog post will tell you what to do if you need your old Worcester Bosch boiler repaired.

Has your guarantee definitely expired?

You don’t have to own a particularly old Worcester Bosch boiler for your guarantee to have expired. Don’t forget, 5 – 10 year guarantees are a relatively new thing in the world of boiler manufacturers, so there may still be plenty of boilers out there that have expired guarantees after just three years.

Feeling unsure? Check your warranty documents or call Worcester Bosch for advice. (And if you’ve missed an annual service, read my blog ‘How to Keep Your Worcester Bosch Warranty When You’ve Missed a Service’)

If your guarantee is still valid, getting your boiler repaired is as simple as calling up your manufacturer and reporting the fault (although depending on the manufacturer, you may still be charged for a call-out).

However, if your guarantee has definitely expired, read on.

Can you troubleshoot it yourself?

When you have a faulty boiler, the first thing you’re probably going to want to know is whether there’s anything you can do at home without calling in the professionals.

The good news is, there ARE some ways you can diagnose or even troubleshoot your old Worcester Bosch boiler, and in fact I’ve written a couple of blog posts that may be of interest to you.

Simply click on the links below for more information:

The most common faults I have come across on these boilers is loss of pressure, mainly due to a faulty automatic air vent. The solution is a small, cheap part that’s relatively quick fix.

Ignition problems of sparking and not igniting, or going into boiler lock out are usually caused by the PCB (printed circuit board). In such cases, it could also be the gas valve, but mostly you’ll find it’s the PCB.

If you’re unsure of any of the advice given above, feel free to drop me an email or leave a comment on this blog post and I’ll do my best to clarify.

Find a Worcester Bosch specialist

If you can’t find a solution above, or if you’d really rather leave the troubleshooting to the professionals, my best advice is to do a search for a Worcester Bosch specialist in your area. For instance, I’d type ‘Worcester Bosch boiler repair Edinburgh’ into Google.

You can also visit the official Worcester Bosch website and click on the option to find a local installer or engineer, before typing in your postcode. It should hopefully come up with a list of accredited engineers in your area who have spent time at the Worcester Bosch factory.

I always find it’s better to find a Worcester Bosch accredited installer. This usually works out cheaper in the long run as they have experience and knowledge of the common faults and remedies.

Worried about cost?

I’d definitely recommend calling two or three Worcester Bosch accredited engineers and getting a couple of quotes. This will give you a better idea of the amount you can expect to pay, and also give you a better sense of the company you’re dealing with.

Always ask if there’s a call-out fee before agreeing to a visit. Preferably, you should be looking for a reputable company who will NOT charge a call-out fee, but is happy to show up and diagnose the problem before issuing you a fixed price quote.

For more advice, read my blog post ‘How to Avoid Costly Heating Engineer Call-Out Charges’.

TIP: If your Worcester Bosch boiler is under 12 years old, it shouldn’t need replaced – so be wary of anyone who recommends this option. These are generally very reliable boilers and parts should be available and in stock. However, boilers older than 12 years could work out cheaper to replace.

Conclusion

By now, you should have a better idea of how to get your old Worcester Bosch boiler repaired. And don’t forget, it usually pays off to find a heating engineer that is Worcester Bosch accredited, as they will have the most knowledge of common faults and how to fix them.
