Looking to discover how the Baxi 600 range compares to the Worcester Bosch CDi compact range?

If a compact combi is what you need for your home, these two ranges are both a great choice. But you’re probably wondering which one is the best choice – not just for now, but also in the long-run. For instance, are there are any clear benefits that’ll help make your decision easier?

Well, unfortunately it’s not an easy choice. However, there are some things to look out for that might indicate one or the other is best suited to your home – including the difference in output and flow rates..

As a heating engineer with over 20 years’ experience in the Edinburgh area, I’m going to compare the Baxi 600 range and the Worcester Bosch CDi compact range, below.

Introduction

The Baxi 600 range has been recently introduced to the market. And the brand has been very smart when introducing this range to the market. Plus, they’ve also got the option to adjust your heating via Baxi’s new uSense smart controls. All you need is a smartphone (or tablet) and an internet connection!

And the Worcester Bosch CDi range? Well, for starters, it can deliver fantastic flow rates to your home. And this range is just as compact as the Baxi. However, it’s also won ‘Which? Best Buy’ for several years running – something that Baxi can’t match.

Let’s take a closer look at both of these two ranges below…

Output and flow rates

If you’re already savvy on the outputs and flow rates you need, here’s the part that’ll interest you about the Baxi:

  • Baxi 624 combi boiler: 10.2 litres of hot water per minute to your taps, with an output of 25kW to the hot water, and 21kW to the central heating.
  • Baxi 630 combi boiler: 12.2 litres of hot water per minute to your taps, with an output of 30kW to the hot water, and 21kW to the central heating.

Now, here’s the outputs and flow rates on offer from the CDi compact range:

  • Greenstar 28CDi compact: This boiler provides an output of 24kW to the heating and 28kW to the hot water at 11.4 litres of hot water per minute (35 degrees Celsius)
  • Greenstar 32CDi compact: This boiler will give you an output of 24kW to the heating and 32kW to the hot water at 13.1 litres of hot water per minute (35 degrees Celsius)
  • Greenstar 36CDi compact: This boiler supplies an output of 24kW to the heating and 36kW to the hot water at 14.7 litres of hot water per minute (35 degrees Celsius)

TIP: In order to be confident you’re making the right choice for your home, I’d recommend getting 2 – 3 fixed price quotes. Your chosen engineer should be able to measure your home’s heat loss, for ultimate peace of mind.

Size and special features

The Baxi 600 measures in at 390mm x  700mm x 285mm, and is a fairly compact size. The good news is, it should easily fit into a 290mm deep-fill cupboard, much like the Worcester Bosch. However, one big difference is this boiler can be used with Baxi’s twin flue system, which means your boiler can be located in positions other brands can’t. The long flue can easily be fitted through a ceiling or void.

With a size of 690mm x 390mm x 280mm, the CDi compact range is very similar to the Baxi 600, in that they can easily fit inside a regular kitchen cupboard. So, if space is a premium in your home… this doesn’t make your decision any easier. Sorry!

However, one thing I’ll say is that the controls and key components are positioned so that these boilers are a joy to work on. Not that you really need to be concerned about that!

Guarantee

The Baxi range of boilers comes with a 7-year no-quibble guarantee as standard – no catches. There’s no need to fit the brand’s own controls or filters, and Baxi also have their own dedicated engineers to attend call-outs.

So, here’s a good differentiator: the Worcester Bosch CDi range comes with Worcester Bosch’s brilliant 10-year no-quibble guarantee (when fitted along with the brand’s own filter and controls, by an accredited installer). So, you could technically be covered for three years longer than the Baxi. And just like the Baxi, this brand has its own dedicated engineers.

TIP: Both guarantees are subject to the boiler being serviced annually by a Gas Safe registered engineer.

Best suited to

Now, this is the bit where you’re about to find out which model of the Baxi 600 might be best suited to your home.

  • Baxi 624 combi boiler: Ideal for a small apartment or home with 2 – 4 radiators, with predominant use of a shower (might be slow to fill a bath)
  • Baxi 630 combi boiler: Perfect for a small apartment or home with 2 – 4 radiators, with a bath or high-pressure shower (can easily cope with either)

And here’s how the Worcester Bosch CDi range compares:

  • Greenstar 28CDi compact: Best suited to a typical three-bedroom home with around 5 – 9 radiators and a bath and shower (although the bath may be slightly slower to fill).
  • Greenstar 32CDi compact: This boiler is perfect for a typical three-bedroom home with around 5 – 9 radiators and a bath and shower (will have no trouble running both, but not at the same time)
  • Greenstar 36CDi compact: Ideal for a typical three-bedroom home with around 5 – 9 radiators and a deep bath and high pressure shower

TIP: Treat this as a rough guide, designed to give you a better idea of whether the Baxi 600 might be a good fit. I’d still recommend always getting 2 – 3 fixed price quotes from experienced engineer. And always get a home visit!

Conclusion

Thanks for reading. I really hope I’ve been of help when trying to decide between these two ranges of boilers. It’s not always an obvious choice, but there are some key differences. Still, I’d recommend requesting 2 – 3 fixed prices quotes, to ensure you can make the best choice for your home.
