Looking for the perfect combi boiler to supply amazing flow rates to your large 5-bedroom property?
In that case, let me introduce you to the daddy of all combi boilers, the big boy, the one and only Worcester Bosch Greenstar 42cdi combi! I’ve used my own experiences as a heating engineer to review this boiler in full, so you can make the right choice for your home.
So, read on to find out if the 42cdi could be your next combi boiler.
Introduction
Most popular combi boilers supply around 30kw to the hot water, yet these days homeowners expect higher and higher flow rates, and typically own more baths, en suites, high pressure and rain showers. To compensate, manufacturers are introducing larger output boilers, at around 38kw and 40kw.
However, Worcester Bosch have taken it one step further with this absolute beast of a combi, supplying an incredible 42kw to the hot water! It certainly packs a punch.
I recently fitted this combi where one of my customers had an existing 30kw model and was thinking he would have to fit a hot water tank to match his hot water demand. Problem was that he didn’t really have the required space. We did all the tests, and decided this was the best solution to his problem.
The result? He was completely satisfied with the 42cdi, and now he can run two showers at once without any trouble! It’s also great for easily filling a deep cast iron bath – something that’s always seemed impossible with lesser output combis in the past.
Output and flow rate
This model – although called a 42cdi – provides 42kw to the hot water and only 30 kw to the heating circuit. So, that means it can easily run two showers at once, or a bath and shower simultaneously. It will also happily heat a 5-bedroom house with two public rooms and 10-14 radiators.
However, if you have large rooms with high ceilings and poor insulation, get your engineer to measure the property and check your home’s heat loss. That way you can make sure the boiler is the adequate output to heat your home.
Remember, you can only get the amazing flow rate of 17.1 litres per minute if there is an adequate flow rate of water coming into the property. So, get your chosen engineer to check the incoming flow rate before choosing this model, along with the gas supply pipe, which might also need upgraded.
Size and special features
With dimensions of 760 mm x 440 mm x 360 mm, the 42cdi combi isn’t a compact boiler, so unfortunately it won’t fit in a standard kitchen cupboard or Edinburgh press. It is a wall-hung boiler though, so it can look at home in your kitchen.
As for special features, it contains a large siphon to eliminate the risk of your condensate pipe freezing, along with an in-built keyless filling link provided as standard. The energy efficient controls are also top notch.
Guarantee
What, more great news? That’s right! This beast of a boiler comes with Worcester Bosch’s brilliant 10-year no-quibble guarantee (when fitted along with the brand’s own filter and controls, by an accredited engineer) – so you’ll be covered on the off-chance anything does happen to go wrong.
TIP: All Worcester Bosch’s guarantees are subject to the boiler being serviced annually by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
