Do you need a direct replacement to the old, temperamental system boiler in your Edinburgh home?

Switching boilers can be stressful, and it’s not exactly something many people look forward to. Saying that, doing your research beforehand can really pay off.

In recent years, many of my customers have come to me looking for a boiler solution that means they get to keep their current set-up and hot water tank, without any of the fuss or upheaval that comes with switching to a combi.

If this sounds like you, and you want an easy fix that still delivers a great flow rate and oodles of heating for your medium – large property, the Vaillant EcoTEC Plus 600 system boilers range could be an ideal choice.

The good news is, I’ve put together all experience with these boilers to give you an in-depth review – so your choice is made even easier.

Introduction

Vaillant has a very good reputation for producing the quietest, quality boilers on the market. Their boilers are also very durable, resulting in a central heating solution that could last you decades.

The 624 in particular has a very good output for its size and can easily be added to your existing cylinder and controls. It’s also a good choice if you who want to make a fairly clean switch from a regular boiler to a system boiler for a quieter, more efficient system.

Another great plus point is that this is a high efficiency condensing system boiler, so you’ll probably see a big difference in your fuel bills and carbon footprint.

Output and flow rate

With its output of 24kw to the central heating, the EcoTEC 624 system boiler is best suited to a 3-4 bedroom home with around 8-10 radiators. However, if you have a large home with particularly high ceilings, or 12+ radiators, you might need to size up.

As this is a system boiler, it will easily connect to your existing hot water tank so your flow rate to the shower and bath will be the same as it’s always been.

This boiler is particularly handy if you have a power shower or shower with a pump, as you won’t have to make a lot of changes as you’d expect to do when switching to a combi boiler.

Size and special features

The EcoTEC Plus 624 is slightly on the large side compared to some of the other system boilers on the market, as it’s 720mm high x 4440mm wide x 338mm deep. This means you won’t be able to fit it inside a kitchen unit or Edinburgh press.

Despite its size, the 624 is surprisingly lightweight – actually the lowest in its class. Another good feature is that it also comes with a 2-stage frost thermostat.

Guarantee

I recommend the 624 once when a client was looking for a premium brand boiler with a 10-year guarantee. However, they’d already previously upgraded their controls and fitted a central heating filter.

The problem there is that some manufacturers (such as Worcester Bosch) only give a 10-year guarantee if you fit their filter and controls – luckily, this isn’t the case with Vaillant, so they were able to get exactly what they were looking for without replacing controls unnecessarily and saving on costs.

Vaillant also has its own dedicated engineers to attend call-outs, so you know your boiler is going to get the best possible care – without any extra hidden charges.

Conclusion

If you’re in need of a direct replacement for your old, sluggish system boiler, the Vaillant EcoTEC Plus 624 could be the perfect choice.

And with 24kw output to the central heating, you’ll find the 624 can happily heat a 3-4 bedroom home with around 8 – 10 radiators. This boiler is NOT suitable if you have 12+ radiators.

It’s slightly on the large side for a system boiler, so it won’t fit in your kitchen cupboard. Plus, it’s a high-efficiency condensing boiler, so you’ll probably save money on your energy bills.
