Are you wondering what makes condensing boilers so great for your home and the environment?
If you have an older style combustion boiler, the chances are you could be paying over the odds for your fuel bills – in fact, a condensing boiler could save you around £225 per year!
Below, I’m going to tell you how, along with some of the other great advantages you can look forward to with a high efficiency condensing boiler.
But first, let’s learn a little more about the difference between condensing boilers, and old-style combustion boilers…
What is a condensing boiler?
Condensing boilers use the latent heat which normally goes out the flue as waste product. Using these hot gases causes it to condense in the flue pipe. That’s how condensing boilers get their name because they produce condense every so often, but they’re also much more efficient than standard combustion boilers due to their internal heat exchangers, which means they use up less fuel to heat your home – and in turn, they produce less carbon emissions, too.
Because of their added efficiency, regulations state that all new boilers fitted in UK homes from 2005 onwards must be condensing boilers. From 2010, the regulations were updated further to specify boilers are ‘A’ rated with no less than 88% efficiency, along with time and temperature controls.
The benefits of a condensing boiler
Now, let’s take a look at why condensing boilers are now the standard in central heating across the UK:
1. Lower fuel bills
Because condensing boilers are about 12% more efficient than standard combustion boilers, you’re bound to see the difference in your fuel bills – in fact, you could probably save on average around £225 per year.
2. Less waste
As you’re probably aware, there’s only so much fossil fuel (like natural gas) to go around, so using less of it to heat your home is generally better for everyone.
3. A lower carbon footprint
According to website BeEnergySmart, replacing your old G-rated boiler with a new, high efficiency condensing boiler that is A-rated could lower your carbon footprint by 1,220 kg CO2 1,220 kg CO2 every year – isn’t that incredible?
4. More space
Older boilers aren’t just expensive gas guzzlers, they also take up quite a bit more space than is really necessary nowadays. So, replacing with a smaller, lighter condensing boiler could free up more storage space in your home – yay!
5. Recycle your old boiler
Your old combustion boiler is likely worth around £400 in scrap metal that can be recycled into something new and more useful – that’s also £400 off the price of your new boiler! Just ask your chosen installer to see if this is something they participate in.
Conclusion
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading more about condensing boilers and the great benefits they can bring – not only to your home and your bank balance, but also the environment.

I am thinking of replacing our condenser boiler next year. It will be wall mounted. We have 13 radiators, (4 are small ones) how do I get the best boiler and the best price. please
