As budget boilers go, I’d say Glow-worm are definitely one of the best brands out there, and a big part of that reason is that they’re actually manufactured by the Vaillant group – a premium boiler brand. All of their boilers are manufactured in Belper, Derbyshire.

The Betacom 3 combis offer fantastic value for money and are great if you want to invest in a budget high efficiency boiler for your house or flat – plus they’re easy to install, so are popular with engineers like myself!
Output and flow rates
- Betacom 3 24kw combi: This boiler provides an output of 24kw to your heating, and 24kw to your hot water at a rate of 10 litres per minute (35 degrees Celsius)
- Betacom 3 30kw combi: This boiler supplies an output of 30kw to your heating, and 30kw to your hot water at a rate of 12.4 litres per minute (35 degrees Celsius)
Size and special features
Measuring in at 740mm x 418mm x 300mm, the Glow-worm Betacom 3 combi range are wall-mounted, so unfortunately they aren’t compact enough to fit in a standard-sized kitchen cupboard or Edinburgh press.
These boilers come with a bright LCD display, long-lasting heat exchanger, high efficiency Groundfos pump for lower running costs, comes with a built in analogue timerand are compatible with most Glow-worm energy efficient contols. Yippee!
Guarantee
2-years standard warranty. Engineers and installers that are part of Glow-worm’s Club Energy programme can offer extended warranties for customers if necessary (it may cost extra .on the Glow-worm Betacom 3 range.
Ideal for
This is the bit you probably want to pay attention to, as I’m about to tell you which type of home is suited to each boiler:
- Betacom 3 24kw combi: Ideal for small house or apartment with 4- 8 radiators and a shower (not ideal for baths)
- Betacom 3 30kw combi: Best suited to a small to medium home or apartment with 9 – 14 radiators, a shower and bath
ERP rating
Both of the boilers in the Glow-worm Betacom 3 range are ERP rated A, so you can be rest assured you’re taking advantage of the highest level of energy efficiency for your home – plus, you’ll be lowering your carbon footprint!
