Introduction

The old Greenstar Highflow 400 was a non-condensing combi boiler popular among homeowners with large properties who wanted a combi without sacrificing flow rates. I personally installed many of these boilers over the years, and there were incredibly reliable – perhaps you still have one in your home.

Unfortunately, as boilers have become more and more efficient over the years, the old Highflow 400s started to become obsolete. This is an ‘E’ rated boiler with an efficiency of just 75.9% – so upgrading now to an A rated boiler would probably make quite a difference to your heating bills!

Output and flow rate

The old Greenstar 400 provided outputs to the central heating and domestic hot water of 24kw, so you can really tell Worcester Bosch wanted the 440 to pack more of a punch, with its much improved outputs of 29.2kw to the heating and 29.5kw to the hot water (that’s 20 litres per minute to your taps!).

This boiler can take just about anything you can throw at it, and will comfortably heat a home with around 10 – 14 radiators. However, it’s not the ultimate flow rate you can get from a combi – so if you want virtually unlimited hot water, you can size up to its big brother, the CDi Highflow 550 (41.1kw).

TIP: An engineer should always check your incoming water pressure to ensure you’re definitely going to get your money’s worth before installing these boilers!

Size

Just like the 400 before it, the CDi Highflow 440 is a floor-standing boiler, which takes up about as much space as a washing machine. Its measurements are 850mm x 600mm x 600mm, so you really need to find a walk-in cupboard, basement or garage for this boiler.

Alternatively, if you have space in your kitchen, it’ll also fit under a standard kitchen unit (just like a washing machine!).

Worcester Bosch now offer the best no quibble 10-year boiler guarantee on the market right now, and the 440 is no exception, when fitted with Worcester Bosch Greenstar filter and controls – which are also covered for 10 years.

Although, please make note that your boiler has to be serviced annually in order to keep your guarantee valid. The company also has dedicated engineers for call-outs, just on the off-chance something does happen to go wrong with your new boiler.
