Are you looking for a replacement to the Worcester Bosch Greenstar Junior 24i?

That’s right; despite being a great boiler for its time, sadly, the bestselling Greenstar Junior 24i is no more. The good news is that Worcester Bosch have truly outdone themselves with an even better, more efficient replacement!

Having fitted Worcester Bosch boilers for many years, I can tell you that the brand only improves with time. From a heating engineer’s perspective, you can install these boilers, commission them and let them do their job in the background for many years to come – most homeowners forget they’re even there!

Below, I’m going to tell you why the new Worcester Bosch Greenstar 25i combi could be just the boiler you’re looking for.

But first, let’s remind ourselves what made the Junior 24i so great…

Out with the old…

The Greenstar 24i Junior took its place as a bestseller and firm favourite with many homeowners, as along with the 28i Junior, they were made to fit most small apartments or houses. Reliability was their strong suit, and they would run for years and years with very few problems or issues.

The boilers themselves, along with parts, were readily available through plumbers’ merchants, so there was no waiting around for orders to be fulfilled. Parts are still stocked widely today, so getting your 24i repaired is usually a fairly easy job.

Despite Worcester Bosch being a premium brand, and the Junior models being a bit more highly priced than some of their competitors, I always found that they made up for it tenfold in terms of their lifetime cost, making this a real winner in my book.

It’s easy to see why the 24i Junior was so well-loved in its day – you might even have one installed in your own home right now, and are looking for a replacement. Well, Worcester Bosch might have just what you’re looking for…

Introducing the Worcester Bosch Greenstar 25i

The newest addition to the Greenstar range, the 25 (AKA the direct replacement to the 24i Junior) was introduced so that Worcester Bosch fell in-line with the new ERP directive which first kicked into place on the 26th September 2015.

With that in mind, the new 25i is incredibly energy efficient, and meets all the latest criteria and standards that have recently been introduced, along with a new energy saving bulb, lower carbon emissions, and MUCH better flow rates!

Heating engineers love them because they are so straightforward to work with, and simple to install. Here at Superwarm, we’ve already replaced a few 24i Juniors with the new Greenstar 25i models, and every single one of our customers have been impressed with the better flow rates.

So, let’s take a closer look at what makes the Worcester Bosch Greenstar 25i tick, shall we?

Output and flow rate

The Greenstar 25i provides an output of 24kw to your heating, and a 25kw output to your hot water – giving you a flow rate of 10.2 litres per minute! This is an increase from the old 24i Junior, which only allowed up to 9.5 litres per minute.

The improved flow rate means this boiler can easily handle a standard high pressure shower (not a wider ‘rain shower’), but can be a bit slower to fill a bath than its sister, the 30i.

Since this boiler is much more efficient than the old Junior model, it comes with a high efficiency pump and uses much less energy – so you’re bound to notice the difference in your fuel bills!

Size and special features

Sadly, the Greenstar 25i combi is NOT a compact model, so I’m afraid you can’t squeeze it into your standard-sized kitchen cupboard. For reference, this boiler measures 400mm wide, 700mm high, and 330mm deep.

TIP: However, if you ARE in need of a compact boiler for your kitchen, you could choose to pay a little extra to fit the Worcester Bosch Greenstar 25si, which is 390mm wide, 690mm high, and 280mm deep.

Another great feature of the 25i combi is that a flue can be fitted either vertically through the roof or horizontally through a wall, which is great if you need a couple of different options for where your boiler can be fitted.

Guarantee

Great news! The Greenstar 25i comes with the Worcester Bosch’s brilliant 8-year no-quibble guarantee, which means you’re covered for both parts and labour if anything does happen to go wrong with your boiler – with dedicated engineers on-hand to attend call-outs if necessary.

This is a market-leading guarantee and one of the reasons I recommend Worcester Bosch to my customers, as not all manufacturers are as outstanding – you have to be on the lookout for catches in the small print which mean you’re not fully covered, as well as unexpected credit card charges for call-outs!

Just remember, for your guarantee to remain valid, it must be serviced once a year by a Gas Safe registered engineer!

Tech specs

Below are the technical specfications you can expect from the new Greenstar 25i:

  • Heating output: 24kw
  • Hot water output and flow rate: 25kw, with 10.2 litres of hot water per minute
  • Ideal for: A small house or apartment. This boiler can handle a standard high pressure shower but will be slow to fill a bath.
  • Guarantee: 8 years (when fitted with Worcester Bosch magnetic central heating filter, by a Worcester Bosch accredited installer)
  • ERP rating: A

Conclusion

It was sad to say goodbye to the Worcester Bosch Greenstar 24i Junior, but if you want an ideal replacement that’s fully compliant with the new ERP regulations – plus much better flow rates – look no further than the Worcester Bosch Greenstar 25i combi boiler.
