If so, the Worcester Bosch Greenstar 30cdi system boiler might one of the options you’re considering – or at least, it should be! But just to make absolutely sure, I’ve used my 20+ years of experience fitting and servicing this boiler, to review it in full.
So, read on to find out whether this boiler might be the perfect choice for your home.
Introduction
Which’s ‘Best Buy’ for six years’ running, Worcester Bosch provide quality, reliable boilers with great guarantees. The 30cdi might be for you as long as you have a large walk-in cupboard to fit your boiler and cylinder together (it won’t fit a standard kitchen cupboard).
The other great thing about this boiler is that compared to the 30i system boiler, it has the capacity to flue longer distances. The 30Cdi system boiler can flue up to 7 metres horizontally, and 8 metres vertically, whereas the 30i system can only flue 6 metres each way.
TIP: This is a big bonus if the boiler is located quite a distance from your outside wall or roof.
Output and flow rate
The large 30kw output to the hot water and heating means that the 30cdi system is suited to a spacious home or apartment with large, open plan areas and high ceilings. It can comfortably heat 13 – 18 radiators and a 150-300 litre hot water cylinder.
As the 30cdi is a system boiler, it will connect to your existing hot water tank so the flow rate to your shower and baths shouldn’t change. So, if you have a power shower or pump, your existing set-up won’t need to be disturbed and you’ll be able to enjoy the same flow rate you’re used to.
Size and special features
Measuring in at 440mm wide, 760mm high, and 360mm deep, this is a larger boiler that unfortunately will not fit in a standard kitchen cupboard. If you need a smaller, compact model then fit the Worcester 30i system boiler (390mm wide, 690mm high, 280mm deep).
In my opinion, unless space is a premium and you are fitting the Worcester Bosch boiler, cylinder, and controls (plus the 10 year-guarantee is important to you), I would fit the Worcester 30Cdi every time, as there’s only around £40 difference in price.
The 30cdi can also be fitted with Worcester Bosch’s integral diverter valve, which means that if the heating and water are selected together, the boiler always give priority to heating the water before the radiators.
This is very useful when you have high demand for hot water and fit a large 300 litre cylinder. If the 300 litre cylinder is piped in at a close proximity to the boiler, it can heat cold water to 55 degrees in as little as 15 – 18 minutes.
Guarantee
This boiler comes with Worcester Bosch’s 10-year no quibble guarantee, when fitted with Worcester Bosch’s own cylinder, magnetic central heating filterand controls. This guarantee is a market leader, so great value for money.
In fact, I’ve just fitted a 30cdi system model, along with a Worcester Bosch cylinder and controls this week. What appealed to the client was that everything was covered under the 10-year guarantee, whereas the 30i system boiler would have only been covered for 8 years.
NOTE: All Worcester Bosch guarantees are subject to the boiler being serviced annually by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
