Are you looking for a compact combi boiler for your medium-sized Edinburgh home?
If so, the Worcester Bosch Greenstar 30si might already be on your radar. It’s ideal if you’re looking for a compact boiler that ticks all the right boxes.
Having fitted many of these models, I’m going to tell you all you need to know about the 30si, including what might just make it the perfect choice for your next combi boiler.
Introduction
Only around £100 more expensive than the Worcester Bosch Greenstar 30i (reviewed here)(reviewed here), the main difference between these two boilers is the size. The 30si will quite happily fit in a standard sized kitchen cupboard without having to remove or replace any of your kitchen units.
I find many people looking for a replacement to their existing 28kw combi find this makes an ideal swap, as the extra 2kw to the hot water can improve their flow rate by around 1 litre of hot water per minute.
These days everyone wants more for less, so the 30si is a surefire winner where space is a premium and you don’t want to remodel your kitchen. And paying a little extra now could mean you won’t have the extra hassle or expense of forking out for joinery work.
Output and flow rate
The 30Si can supply 30kw to the hot water, and 24kw to the heating, so it’s perfectly suited to a 3-bedroom house with 8-10 radiators. However, this is just a rough guide, so always get an engineer to measure your home’s heat loss to ensure you’ll definitely benefit from this boiler.
The flow rate is perfectly adequate to fill a bath along with a high pressure shower, however you’d be pushing it to try and run a bath and shower at the same time.
Size and special features
Coming in at around 390mm wide, 690mm high, and 280mm deep, you’ll be happy to hear the 30si is your best option if your best option space-wise is installing your boiler in your kitchen wall cupboard
We recently installed a 30si in a home where the client had just had a kitchen fitted and had been told by another engineer that no boiler would fit without removing or replacing the kitchen units. We measured and double-checked the specifications, and the 30si fitted perfectly without any alterations.
The 30si can also be fitted with Worcester Bosch’s integral filling loop, which keeps the boiler flush at the bottom of the cupboard. For ease of fitting, the mounting plate jig can be fitted to the wall and piped before the boiler unit is connected.
If you’re wondering what that means for you, it’s really a great feature that ensures the boiler does not get damaged or scraped during the fitting process. It can also be fitted with the Worcester Bosch Wave smart controls, which has weather compensation and can be controlled with a smartphone or tablet.
Guarantee
A great advantage of the 30si is that it comes with the brand’s brilliant 9-year no-quibble guarantee when fitted by an accredited installer – as long as it’s installed with Worcester Bosch’s own filter and controls.
This is a market-leading guarantee and one of the best available right now. Plus, Worcester Bosch has its own dedicated engineers ready to attend call-outs if you ever need them.
TIP: Just remember to get your boiler serviced annually by a Gas Safe registered engineer, otherwise your boiler will fall out of warranty.

I have had many boilers over the years as I rent out a few properties. I went over to Worcester as I was told they were the best. Of four boilers all Greenstars none have run for more than five years without major repair. One went wrong after less than a year. As well as being expensive I have had repairs of well over £1000. I have scrapped two and replaced with Ideal which run quieter use less gas and have much more room under the hood for repairs. They also have 7 year guarantee. Bosch? Never again, just like most else they make expensive and nasty.
