Are you interested in a Baxi EcoBlue Advance combi boiler, but unsure of what you need?
This is one of the most popular combi boilers with many of my customers, and with a great output range and 10-year guarantee, it’s easy to see why.
However, as any experienced heating engineer (myself included) will tell you, knowing exactly which one you need can be tricky – as getting it wrong could mean you’re either a bit too chilly in winter, or using more energy than you need.
To make it easier for you, I’m going to give you an overview of the EcoBlue Advance range of boilers, and the type of home best suited to each.
Output/flow rate
Below, you’ll find the outputs available to your central heating, as well as the flow rate you can expect to your taps.
- 21.2kw to heating and 24kw to hot water: 9.8 litres per min at 35 degrees Celsius
- 25.3kw to heating and 28kw to hot water: 11.5 litres per min at 35 degrees Celsius
- 29.6kw to the heating and 33kw to the hot water: 13.5 litres per min at 35 degrees Celsius
- 33.9kw to the heating and 40kw to the hot water: 16.4 litres per min at 35 degrees Celsius
TIP: To determine the correct output for your home, I’d recommend getting your chosen Gas Safe registered heating engineer to measure your home’s heat loss, so you can be sure you’re buying the right output of boiler.
PLEASE NOTE: If you opt for the 33 or 40kw boiler, please ask your engineer to check your incoming water pressure and flow rate before fitting. You will NOT benefit from these fantastic flow rates if the incoming pressure is insufficient.
Size and special features
The EcoBlue Advance measures in at 763mm high x 450mm wide x 345mm deep. So, it’s bigger than a compact combi, and unfortunately will not fit in Edinburgh press or standard kitchen wall cupboard.
This boiler can be fitted with your choice of EcoBlue parts, including a digital or mechanical timer, as well as a room thermostat. Not to mention, Baxi’s extra long twin flue option!
The other big plus point on the 40kw model is it gives an output of 33.9kw to the heating circuit. If you check around, most 40kw combis only supply 30kw to heat your home. So if you need that extra bit of heat, this is the one to go for
Guarantee
The good news is, the EcoBlue Advance comes with Baxi’s fantastic 10-year no-quibble guarantee, as long as your boiler is serviced annually by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
Ideal for
This is the part where I tell you which specification boiler is best suited to your home (although I’d still recommend heat loss measurement to be 100% sure):
EcoBlue Advance 24kw combi: Ideal for a small property with 4-5 radiators and a shower (although it might be a bit slow to fill a bath).
EcoBlue Advance 33kw combi: Ideal for a 3-4 bedroom family home with around 6-8 radiators, high pressure shower and a bath. It’s a great flow rate for the shower and will easily fill your bath.
EcoBlue Advance 40kw combi: Ideal for large flat with high ceilings, or a detached house. Will happily heat 9-14 radiators, and will easily run 2 showers at once. Fills a deep cast iron bath quickly.
ERP rating
You may be glad to hear that every boiler in the EcoBlue Advance range is A-rated with a 91.1% boiler efficiency.
Conclusion
If you’re interested in the Baxi EcoBlue Advance range, but aren’t sure of exactly what you need, you’ve come to the right place.
Above, I’ve detailed everything you need to know about each model specification, included the heating output and flow rate, size and special features, guarantee, ERP rating and more.
I’ve even given you a rough guide to help determine which model might be best suited to your home – but remember to ask your chosen heating engineer to conduct a heat loss test and check your incoming water pressure to make sure!
What are your thoughts on the EcoBlue Advance range?

Hello i have a 1906 7 bedroom house with two bathrooms and four living rooms, not much insulation but the walls are 550mm thick and most of the house is single glazed!, my existing boiler is oil and from the seventies and very inefficient and costly on oil, i would like to have a gas combi boiler but have 30 rads and high ceilings.
