Are you looking for the perfect boiler for your small to medium-sized Edinburgh property?

The Worcester Bosch Greenstar 28cdi compact and 29cdi classic both appear to fit the bill, but you’d be surprised at the differences between these two boilers.

So, in this very special blog post, I’m going to tell you all you need to know so that you can decide whether the compact or classic model is best for your home.

Introduction

It makes me incredibly sad, but a lot of engineers just don’t seem to do their homework on these specific Worcester Bosch models. Over the years, I’ve seen far too many specify the 29cdi classic in the wrong homes.

The main deciding factor with these models really comes down to the central heating output. There’s no point in over-specifying with the classic when the compact model will do the job – it’s also a little bit cheaper, too.

I’ll explain more, below.

Output and flow rate

If you have a larger home, or older-style properties with high ceilings and stone walls, I’d always recommend choosing the classic model over the compact – this is because it provides an output of 30kw to the central heating, rather than the compact’s 24kw. It’s just that little bit extra oomph for optimal home comfort, and you’ll find you can heat 12+ radiators with the classic.

There isn’t really a HUGE difference in the hot water output between both of these boilers, although the 29cdi classic will also give you a slightly better flow rate over the 28cdi compact.

Size

Another secondary factor to consider is the size of their boilers, as the 28cdi compact takes up far less space than the 29cdi classic.

The compact will easily fit in a kitchen cupboard or Edinburgh press, whereas the classic is wall-mounted and can fit on your kitchen wall or larger storage cupboard.

Guarantee

Despite these technically being very different models, both are still in the Worcester Bosch cdi range, meaning they are subject to what is probably the best no quibble 10-year boiler guarantee* when fitted with Worcester Greenstar filter and comfort controls on the market right now.

That’s because there’s no catch in the small print, or extra credit card charges for call-outs, unlike other guarantees from similar companies. I like to think I look out for my customers, which is why I always recommend Worcester Bosch’s guarantee over any of the other brands – you can thank me later.

At a Glance

Below, I’ve put together a brief summary of the tech specs you can expect from the 28cdi and 29cdi:

The 28cdi compact

  • Heating output: 24kw
  • Hot water output: 28kw
  • Ideal for: Small property with average-sized rooms
  • ERP rating: A, 92% efficiency
  • Energy rating: ERP efficiency 92% A-rated boiler
  • Guarantee: 10 years*

The 29cdi classic

  • Heating output: 30kw
  • Hot water output: 29kw
  • Ideal for: Small to medium-sized property with larger rooms
  • ERP rating: ERP efficiency 92% efficiency A-rated boiler
  • Guarantee: 10 years*

Conclusion

If you’re confused about whether the 28cdi compact or 29cdi classic is the best fit for your home, the above comparison blog should help you out. The main deciding factor here is the central heating output, as the 29cdi classic is much more suited to larger or older-style properties with high ceilings, stone walls and 12+ radiators.

The 28cdi compact will happily heat and supply hot water to a small home, although the 29cdi classic will also provide you with a slightly better flow rate. Another secondary factor to consider is the size, as the classic takes up more space and won’t fit in a kitchen cupboard unlike the 28cdi compact.

And lastly, both of these boilers come with Worcester Bosch’s incredible 10-year no quibble guarantee, so you’re covered no matter what happens.

Have you decided which boiler is right for you, yet?

*10 year guarantee subject to the boiler being serviced annually by a Gas Safe Registered engineer.
