Vaillant’s EcoTEC pro range of combi boilers are simply ideal providing all the hot water you’ll ever need to your small to medium Edinburgh home – plus, because it’s Vaillant, they’re also incredibly reliable and long-lasting.

With so many mid-range boilers on the market, the EcoTEC Pro 28 really shakes things up in terms of value for money. It’s got a better flow rate than the 24-25kW boilers out there, but it’s also considerably more reasonably priced than most 30kw boilers.

Plus, it also has the Which ‘Best Buy’ stamp of approval, as well as being one of the quietest boilers on the market.

Output and flow rate

The 24kW heating output means this boiler can comfortable heat a good-sized flat or small three-bedroom home. It is NOT suitable if you have a larger property, in which case I’d recommend sizing up to a 28kW or 30kW heating output.

The hot water output of 28kW allows this boiler can handle a shower or a bath at a flow rate of around 11.5 litres per minute. However, it’s worth bearing in mind that your bath may be a little slow to fill – although if you live in a tenement flat with older pipes, you may not notice much of a difference.

If you have two showers or require a little extra oomph out of your hot water, I’d recommend sizing up to a Vaillant EcoTEC Plus 832.

Size and special features

The Pro 28’s measurements are 440mm x 720mm x 338mm, making it slightly deeper than a standard kitchen wall cupboard. However, all hope is not lost, as it might still fit if your kitchen cupboards are a bit deeper than standard. Most of my clients prefer to fit this boiler in a walk-in cupboard, or butler’s pantry.

The controls on the EcoTEC pro 28 are displayed on the front, and you’ll benefit from the patented ‘Aquacomfort’ system, which means you have access to instant hot water at a constant, steady temperature.

Guarantee

The guarantee on this particular boiler is 5 years when fitted by a Vaillant accredited installer, but you don’t have to pay any extra for the filter and controls for that deal. Plus, there’s no hidden small print or unexpected credit card charges to catch you out, unlike other similar boiler companies.

Vaillant also has a great, reliable back-up service, with its own dedicated engineers for call-outs if anything were to ever go wrong – one of the reasons I recommend this guarantee to my customers.

However, they used to offer 7 years for the same boiler. I’m not sure why Vaillant has scrapped their extended warranties, but they are technically still available – if you want to pay a bit extra for them, that is.
